Anduril Industries, a defense technology company founded by Palmer Luckey, is set to take over Microsoft’s $22 billion Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) program for the U.S. Army. This strategic move involves Anduril assuming responsibility for production, future hardware and software development, and delivery timelines of the IVAS project, pending approval from the U.S. Department of Defense.
The IVAS program aims to equip soldiers with advanced mixed-reality headsets that integrate augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies. These headsets are designed to enhance situational awareness and support mission command of unmanned systems, thereby improving battlefield effectiveness.
As part of this collaboration, Microsoft Azure will become Anduril’s preferred cloud platform for all workloads related to IVAS and Anduril’s AI technologies. This partnership underscores a significant shift in the defense technology landscape, combining Anduril’s expertise in autonomous systems with Microsoft’s cloud and AI capabilities to deliver cutting-edge solutions for the U.S. Army.
